Born in Glasgow, Scotland on the 2nd of April 1947, one of twin sons to a Regimental Sergeant Major in the Highland Light Infantry Paratroop Brigade.
Moved to Mackay in Australia 32 years ago and spent the first 7 years with TAFE before finishing as a Deputy Principal.
Spent the next 25 years as a Marine Engineer on a wide range of boats, tugs and ships (up to 340 metres long), sailing to many parts of the world and hold Degrees in Teaching and Engineering.
We have 6 old cars, a 1910 Maxwell AA, a 1910 Standard Model J, a 1924 FIAT 501C, a 1955 FJ Holden utility, a 1966 MGB roadster, and a 1979 FIAT X1/9 roadster, and I am currently building a 1950s Caravan.
In 2020 the Scenic Rim Regional Council advertised for expressions of interest in the voluntary position of Town Crier to replace the retiring John Deeks, and I applied for the job and was appointed as the Official Town Crier.
With my wife Pauline ably assisting me, I have Cried at the Australia Day Event, the Anzac Day post Ode, and several local Shows and events. I have also Cried at the Queensland Day Ceremony on the 6th of June, plus performed Cries for other Queensland Day events.
Am I loud enough? I hope to have my Father’s Sergeant Major’ parade ground voice, but will wait and see how I fare at the 2021 National Championships.
